"Small Regency Period Commode With Animal Bronzes"
Small Regency chest of drawers with 3 drawers in 3 rows. 2 particularities distinguish it: - a very particular shape of the marble on the front which has a central pinch, repeated on the top drawer. - an asymmetrical ornamentation of the handles decorated with a squirrel on the left and a monkey on the right. this decoration being repeated on the 6 handles of the furniture. The sides are curved and feature a decoration of Rosewood frames treated in different wood grain. The same marquetry treatment is found on the front on the 3 curved drawers, with end grain wood highlighting their edges. The corners of the chest of drawers are treated in chevrons, accentuating the rounded effect of the piece of furniture. The curves and counter-curves allow the light to animate this small piece of furniture, and the bestiary of bronzes completes the task of giving it a “light” character, announcing the emerging Louis XV style. Beautiful marble with triple moldings. The drawers have retained their period locks for 2 of them. No key. 18th century period
