"Art Nouveau Moka Spoons "
Interesting set of 800 German silver moka spoons from the Art Nouveau period (Jugendstyl). The handles are very finely worked. On the front side, at the base, a stem decorated with small leaves bears four flowers at its top. The stem runs along the edge of the handle so as to reserve a space like a sort of medallion which could receive a monogram. The decoration is arranged on a fine pattern of small dots while the medallion remains smooth. At the top, at the base of the spoon we find a stem carrying leaves and a flower on its seedling of small dots. We find this decoration almost identically at the base of the spoon on the back of the spoon. On the other hand, the bottom pattern is significantly different from that of the front side in that it only has two flowers and is centered without reserving space for possible monogram. On the narrow part of the handle we find a beautiful series of perfectly legible hallmarks which allow easy identification: the inscription 800 for the title and the crescent moon matched with the crown which have been the official marks of silver in Germany since 1888. Despite its clarity, the goldsmith's mark remained unknown to me. The spoon is discreetly vermilioned and quite sharp, a distinctive sign of this period around 1900. Very pretty lot in very good condition which will seduce you even if it only contains eleven elements for a total weight of 123 grams.
