Pencil portrait of a man wearing a military cap by François Bonvin (1817-1887). François Bonvin came from a modest background and trained on his own through frequenting Flemish and Dutch works and Chardin at the Louvre. Along with Gustave Courbet, he is the main representative of realism in painting. The drawing is signed lower right and framed in a molded and gilded wooden frame from the early 19th century. There are traces of folds and it measures 17.8x12.3 cm alone.
