Strong Sword Called "wallonne" With Regimental Number, , Johannis Wundes Mark flag

Object description :

"Strong Sword Called "wallonne" With Regimental Number, , Johannis Wundes Mark"
It is a strong sword, of the "Walloon" type. The manufacture is most probably Germanic, but these swords from the end of the reign of Louis XIV also equipped French troops, such as the dragoons or the Gendarmerie.
Precise dating is always difficult for this type of weapon, but the large brass wire binding suggests that the mount should not be attributed to a period prior to the second half of the 17th century. Indeed, since this period, brass progressively replaced iron for the bindings of the grips.
We could also consider this weapon as one of the variants of the strong sword (forte-épée) of 1730 model. The blade is however of older manufacture since we can recognize, although very worn, the "king's head" mark used by the 2 oldest generations of swordmakers Johannis Wundes ("the Elder": 1560-1610, and "the Younger: 1578-1650)
BLADE: it is double-edged, without fuller or mark other than on each side the mark already cited of  "king's head crowned".
The blade is heavily oxidized, but its appearance could probably be partially improved by superficial sanding, although we cannot pretend to obtain a condition close to new.
Length of the blade = 76.5 cm, width almost the guard = 3.7 cm, thickness near the guard = 7 mm
GUARD: It is a Germanic type guard, with 2 main branches and 2 secondary branches, the 2 main branches being attached to the pommel by screws. the hand is protected by 2 pierced shells We note a small old repair by metal plate at the level of the exterior shell.
A thumb ring completes the guard.
POMMEL :  it is in the shape of an onion bulb topped with a small button on which the tang of the blade is riveted.
Obviously this weapon has never been dismantled. On the side of the pommel we find engraved the number 116, with a typical 17th century graphic, which is obviously the serial number of the weapon and therefore clearly confirms military use. The two main branches are attached to the pommel with screws, according to German fashion.
GRIP : It is covered with a large twisted wire binding  made of thick brass, alternating with a twisted copper binding of a thinner diameter.
The ferrules are made of brass. Note a probable old repair on the upper ferrule with tin soldering.

In conclusion, it is  a "Walloon" type strong sword, of Germanic manufacture dating from the end of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th century. It obviously shows traces of oxidation, but it has the great advantage of never having been dismantled, and of being in its patina, or as it is usual to say "in its own juice" at a reasonable price which takes his condition into account.
