Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples, view from the Mergellina quay. Oil on wooden panel signed by the landscape painter Louis Désiré Thienon, son of Claude (1772-1846) close to the imperial family, official designer of Louis Bonaparte. Louis learns from his father and his uncle Jean Baptise Isabey. He travels through France, Europe as well as the Maghreb, whose landscapes he depicts in these paintings. This view of the bay is animated with characters with Naples and Vesuvius in the background. Presented in its period frame in stuccoed gilded wood with large palmettes. Bears the artist's signature at the bottom right as well as the date 1881. The scene is located on the back "Vesuvius, seen from the Mergellina quay.
