"Yew Box With Intarsia Decor"
Rare yew box with intarsia decoration. 18th century period. It is entirely made of solid yew, a homogeneous, rot-proof, dense and hard wood with a very fine grain. It is often marked with small black dots and its veining is very tight. The decoration is made using the intarsia technique consisting of incising the wood in order to inlay pieces of another wood. On this box boxwood and rosewood were used. The decor is patterned with foliage scrolls, flowers, nets, the whole being punctuated with small rosewood circles. The lock is functional, equipped with an old key. The finish is made from waxed filler. Dimensions: L 30 x D 17.7 x H 13.3
