"Portrait Of A Man, French School Of The 16th Century"
Oil on walnut panel, which would rather indicate a painter from the south of France. The austerity of the character and the sobriety of his clothing suggest the portrait of a Protestant.... On the back: a label (obviously) attributes the work to the Clouet School. A slot in the painting at the top left was previously restored, the backgrounds were damaged by previous stripping. The material of the large cord has some scales. As for the attribution of the author of this painting and the name of the character, research remains to be done. The frame is a beautiful copy of the French 16th century frames, with careful workmanship, the left upright is attacked by tendrils but has been treated.
