Gaston Larrieu (1908-1983) was born in Eugénie les Bains. He was a student in 1938-39 of René Marie Castaing (Prix de Rome in 1924). He began painting in oil around 1950, very influenced by the work of André Lhote. Encouraged by Max Vignon (art critic), he exhibited in Paris in 1951 and met with great success. He settled there temporarily and took part in numerous Parisian exhibitions including the Salon of Painters Witnesses of their Time in 1956. He also exhibited in Tokyo, Athens, etc. During all these years he received multiple awards. Many of his works are in private collections and official purchases are made by Museums, Ministries and Administrations. He also paints in Brittany and in Spain. Gaston Larrieu adds a stain of red to many of his paintings at the last moment, giving them a dynamic vibration. Monique Dittière, art critic said of him: His painting delights the eye and the heart, the painter Larrieu is true, spontaneous.
