"Pair Of Bronze Candlesticks - By Jules Moigniez"
Pair of late 19th century bronze candlesticks, each signed J.Moigniez, for Jules Moigniez, a great 19th century French animal sculptor. Very unusual to see his signature on candlesticks, especially in pairs. Decorated with chains (only 5 of the 6, one is missing), the bobeches forming lotuses, the handles with the heads of hunting dogs, and bases for dogs of veneration in a hunting scene, hunting foxes. Everything is in the republican style of the 1870s and 80s, following the empire. Moigniez was born in 1835 in Senlis, he participated in the Salon several times, and in the universal exhibitions of 1855 and 1878. Crazy, he committed suicide in 1894.
