"Eagle Lectern Parisian"
Eagle Composite lectern in solid oak, with an eagle in gilded wood from the 18th century, on which 2 lecterns were affixed on each side for the reading of mass. And a 19th century mechanically manufactured foot with tenons, mortises, and dowels especially visible on the feet. At the top of the foot is a hollow to place the eagle, and inscriptions around it "SJ PLA PARIS", either for Place Saint-Jean in Paris, or for the Sculptor. This lectern must therefore have been in a Parisian church. At the bottom of the trunk each side displays the inscriptions "I" in a cartouche, probably for Saint-Jean, moreover the eagle is the emblem of Saint-Jean according to the bestiary of the Bible. This eagle is the light and divinity of Christ. The hoof feet are lion's paws, topped by wooden astragals representing acanthus leaves. Everything is decorated with gadroons, eggs, asparagus... The eagle is split on the right side. Dimensions at the base: 84cm between each leg. Foot height: 119cm. Eagle height: 76cm.
