This pair of antique lava carved earrings from Sicily representing a closed hand are called "Figa" and are still worn to bring good luck to those who use them. The hand-carving is incredible, detailed and realistic. From Sicily, end of the 19th century. 14K Gold (touchstone tested). They are in perfect conditions. Lava jewellery was a must souvenir among the Grand Tour Tourist of the 19th century in Italy. In different colours, always in classical subjects sometimes they achieved a masterpiece quality for the detailed hand-work engraving.
