Signed lower right “Albert Sébille” followed by a naval anchor, the distinctive sign of official naval painters. First half of the 20th century Presented under glass with waxed wooden frame., H 62 cm, width 86 cm. Good condition. Albert SÉBILLE is the son of Ernest Léopold Sébille, architect, and Eugénie Marie Richard. He is a student of Jean Léon Gérôme at the École des beaux-arts in Paris. He was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1906. He died in Paris on June 8, 1953. "His perfect knowledge of the sea and ships of all eras, his erudition, his deep artistic awareness made him one of the most complete maritime illustrators that we had." Gustave Alaux.
