"Marc Chagall (1887-1985) Enameled Glass Diptych"
Rare polychrome enameled glass diptych signed in the Marc Chagall decor and located in Reims, the two leaves bearing the publisher's mark -Art Institute of Chicago- representing a representation of the stained glass windows created by the artist for the bicentennial of the United States. It was in 1977 that Chagall chose to donate it to the city of Chicago because he was particularly impressed by the city's enthusiasm for art. These creations celebrate the rich cultural history of the United States with allusions to America's past with music, particularly rhythm and blues, the influence of literature and the written word as well as the values of freedom and democracy that this great country symbolizes. Very good condition, dimensions: 37.5 cm long x 27.5 cm high. Marc CHAGALL (1887-1985) Painter, sculptor and poet, he was born in 1887 in Belarus into a modest family of Jewish origin. It was in his hometown that he discovered painting, before leaving in 1907 to study at the Beaux Arts in Saint Petersburg and starting to work in the workshop of a Russian ballet decorator. Dreaming of discovering Paris, he moved there in 1911.
