"Suite Of 4 Bent Beech Chairs, No. 67 By Jacob & Josef Kohn – 1900"
Very nice set of four “bistro” chairs by Jacob & Josef Kohn. These Viennese chairs are number 67 in the catalog of this Austrian company founded in 1848. They are characterized by a solid structure in bent beech wood and by a thermoformed seat and back. This embossed wood forms relief patterns reminiscent of the Henri II style. The very good granite-look seat is belted and squared on the front and bolted on the rear. The backrests are openwork, curved and reversed towards the rear. Each chair has the J&J Kohn stamp under the belt. Some still have the stamp "Jacob & Josef Kohn, Wien" under the seat. J. & J. Kohn: Jacob & Josef Kohn was the first competitor of the Thonet Firm in the early 1900s. The firm hired the avant-garde Viennese architects, Josef Hoffmann, Sieget and Moser to create attractive modern furniture for a wealthy clientele. . ******** Period: 1900 Excellent condition.
