Karl Ens Volkstedt. Porcelain Vase Dressed In Gilded Bronze, 1900

Sumptuous German porcelain vase, from the Karl Ens factory (signed under the base: KVE, for Karl Ens Volkstedt), enhanced with gilded bronze inserts with floral decoration, from the Art Nouveau period, circa 1900.
In addition to the particularly large size interesting, our vase declines through its floral decoration, all the characteristic and immediately recognizable codes of the Art Nouveau aesthetic. This artistic movement marks a real turning point at the dawn of the 20th century with a register close to a realistic nature while being stylized.
The background of the piece allows us to contemplate, through a slightly raised enamel, in a paste-on-paste style, a branch of chestnut leaves in red flowers, symbolizing life in perpetual evolution ascending towards the sky, with signs of benefits and protection , with an extremely soft polychromy, in pastel tones of pink, blue and green, cleverly combined with the gilded bronze setting which gives all the brilliance of a certain richness, like a jewel.
Here again, a particularly dreamlike vegetal register is favored to put at the service of this utilitarian object all the poetry which characterizes the Jugendstil movement (literally “young art”, expression used in Germanic countries) whose main objective is to spread art and beauty in everyday
