"Chatelaine And Gold Watch, French Work From The 18th Century "
Chatelaine three golds (green, pink and white) consisting of a fastener decorated with a medallion representing an altar dedicated to Love and surmounted by two hearts. At the foot of the altar, a dog symbolizing fidelity, musical instruments and two doves. This medallion is connected by three chains whose mesh is decorated with flower motifs to a central medallion decorated with a baluster vase with a floral composition and putto standing out against an amati gold background. A watch key, a seal and a cockerel movement watch hang from four of these chains. The watch case has fine radiant guilloche work suggesting the rays of the sun, and a decoration composed of an altar topped with a vase, a dog and trophies. The watch hands are set with small old-cut diamonds. This type of chatelaine was worn on the belt.

Hallmark: ox head in straight profile, 1774-1780.
Gold hallmark on the chatelaine: eagle's head.
Movement of the watch signed: MCI in Caen François Cauger. Watchmaker active during the second part of the 18th century.
