"Johann Wilhelm Baur (1607-1642) - Follower Of, View Of A Port "
Johann Wilhelm Baur (1607-1642) - Follower of View of an imaginary port in Italy Oil on panel Dimension: 15.6 x 25 cm Dimension with frame: 37 x 45 cm Very pretty Italian painting reminiscent of this very good landscape painter German miniaturist Johann Wilhelm Baur. He began his studies in Strasbourg with Brentel then followed the companionship course which took him to Naples then Rome where he very quickly worked for the great families of the Borghese, Colonna and the Farnese. It is truly in Rome that he developed this vein of small-format Italian port. He enjoyed real success during his lifetime, collectors wanted works by the artist, Mazarin had many in his collection, he bequeathed around ten to Louis XIV (series still kept at the Louvre).
