Poliakoff Nicolas (1889 - 1976) – Woman At Her Toilette – Pastel - Workshop Sale

Female nude painted in pastel, large format. The woman is shown seated, she wipes her foot. It stands out against a colored background. She is shown in a slight low angle, which highlights her legs. On the back of the work there is a stamp “Nicolas Poliakoff Sale”, indicating that the work belonged to the artist's workshop and was probably sold shortly after his death, in 1976.
Condition: Work in very good condition, clean . A small halo (original), almost invisible, on the woman's hip. Given its fragility, the pastel is presented under a marie-louise with a deep green edge, and a glass. The modern frame is made of stuccoed and coated wood. Everything is very spectacular.

The artist
Nicolas Poliakoff is a Russian painter from the School of Paris. He is one of the representatives of the Cubist movement. Born in Ukraine on July 22, 1899, he initially trained at the School of Fine Arts in Belgrade (Yugoslavia), which he attended from October 1921 to July 1925. In October 1925, he moved to Paris where he becomes a student of André Lhote at his Painting Academy. From 1926, he was massier of this Academy and assistant to André Lhote until the latter's death in 1962. Until 1965, he was professor of painting at the Academy. From the 1930s until his death, he occupied a workshop at 278, boulevard Raspail in Paris in the Montparnasse district.
From the 1920s, his works were exhibited in personal and group exhibitions.
