Bronze group with brown patina , showing a mother giving a reading lesson to her young daughter , by Eugène Delaplanche . 
Bronze signed "Delaplanche" , followed by the date "1873" . 
Signature of the founder "F.BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR.PARIS" .
Second half of the 19th century . 
Perfect state of conservation and patina .

Eugène Delaplanche (1836-1891)

Eugène Delaplanche was a famous French sculptor , born on 28 February 1836 , in Belleville (Seine) .

He entered the Paris School of Fine Arts in 1852 , where he was a pupil of Francisque - Joseph Duret . 
He won the First Prix de Rome for Sculpture for his plaster sculpture "Ulysses bending the bow that the suitors could not bend" and became a resident at the Villa Médicis in Rome , from 1864 to 1867.
Along with Alexandre Falguière and Antonin Mercié , he was a member of the Florentine Group , showing an interest in Florentine grace .

Eugène Delaplanche , died in Paris on 10 January 1891 , and is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery .
