Second half of the 18th century.
Antonio Beccadelli was born in Bologna in 1718 where he died in 1803. He was a pupil of Felice Torelli and may also have studied with Giuseppe Carlo Pedretti. He mainly paints genre and everyday life subjects, interpreting Giuseppe Maria Crespi's painting at its best. As the years passed he divided his time between his now established career as a painter and the art trade and restoration. In 1754 he was elected Clementine academician. It is a peculiar operation of the artist to combine Crespi's naturalism with the inventive ideas offered by the Flemish and Dutch tradition. Paintings by him are found mainly in private collections, but have also appeared in public art galleries.
