Object description :

"Amputation Knives By Bigg, C. 1845"
Amputation box containing three large surgical knives, the two of which with guilloché ivory handles are signed "H. Bigg" and a crown. The box is therefore English and can be dated between 1842 and 1852 when Henry Bigg established it at 9 St Thomas's Street in London. The third knife with guilloché ebony handle and double blade is not original and bears the French signature of Henseling in Toulon. The box measures 42x7x4.5 cm, the knives between 39cm and 33cm in length. Good condition.
