STYLE
A landscape painter initially neoclassicist and Arcadian in style, influenced by masters Carlo Mancini and Antonio Fontanesi, he gradually updated himself following contacts with the French (primarily, Edgar Degas) and Piedmontese avant-gardes, developing a recognizable and independent style, elegant and luminous, expressed in oil, etching or pastel paintings. His works enjoyed wide success with European and American bourgeois patrons, who appreciated his idyllic country landscapes, harmoniously peopled with shepherds, peasants, and animals, rendered through skillful use of color in peaceful, idyllic atmospheres.
