Pewter Ewer - Besançon, 18th Century

AIGUIERE in pewter with flared horizontal throat, molded pedestal and C-shaped handle with draped stock and molded pouring spout. It is decorated with a large median molding.
Control mark incompletely affixed to the city's arms: eagle on the columns. I
ncompletely affixed hallmark of Claude 1st GONELLE received master in 1737: crowned hammer / CAG
Height: 22.5 cm.
Besançon, Mid-18th century.

Very good condition, well-executed pouring spout.
The pewter hallmarks are very significantly larger than their silverware counterparts, this explains their often partial striking on narrow surfaces as is the case here on the base of the foot.

The dark areas in the center of the shots are just lighting effects.
