Painter: Paul Gervais studied in 1876 at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, then at the Beaux Arts in Paris in 1879, o Sociétaire of the Salon des artistes Français he obtained many awards.
Painter of history, allegorical subjects and genre scenes, having at the time a great reputation, he received numerous commissions for public or private mural compositions: Ministere des Colonies in Paris, Casino de Monté nCarlo, Capitole de Toulouse. The painting is reminiscent of this command!
Paul Gervais sent two large paintings to L'Expositoion Universelle in 1900:
In Toulouse, he was commissioned to produce several works intended to adorn certain rooms of the Capitol. Inaugurated in August 1898, the Salle des Illustres houses notably Le Triomphe des Arts (1897), Dura lex, sed lex (1905) and La Fontaine de Jouvence (mounted in 1908), commissioned from Gervais in 1892. For the wedding hall, he made four panels on the theme of «love source of life», together executed from 1911 and mounted in 1916
Thanks in particular to the support of Gaston Doumergue, he obtained several other public commissions: for the Palais de Justice in Besançon (1902), the Colonial Office (1910, 1914, 1917), the École supérieure de la marine (1924) and the Palais de l'Élysée.
He was promoted to the Legion of Honor in 1908.
