"Oval Portrait Of A Saint In Prayer "charitas" Southern School Haloed Head Oil Marouflaged 18th"
Within its beautiful oval frame with beaded laurel leaves in gilded wood, this fine oil on large canvas mounted on cardboard is remarkable for its expressiveness. The holy martyr in prayer holding his whip and his crusifix in his right hand, seated near an open Bible with a haloed head, dressed in his black habit with a monk's hood, he is bearded, left hand on his heart and eyes raised to heaven exorting his God. Above is inscribed "Charitas", this small painting framed in Marseille in the 1930s is from the end of the 18th century and has an undeniable spiritual presence through the subject and the play of lights, ,, a neat and inspired work in its original state
