Exceptional rectangular box with cut corners in Thuya burl veneer, rosewood, ebony and ivory fillets. Its slightly domed lid is finely decorated with an engraved inlay decoration featuring a peacock in a leafy architecture, a plant in a vase and a butterfly hovering over it. A profusion of materials and colors! Mixed together are ivory for the architecture, silver for the peacock and the phylactery, brass for the vase and the foliage of the architecture, green-tinted wood for the plant, pink-tinted for the butterfly and blue for its wings. Its facade is openable. The interior is padded with cherry red silk, typical of the refinement of the Napoleon III era. The upholstery is very well executed and in good condition. Brass lock. No key.
