"Hut Post, Totem, Tribal Art, Oceanic Art, Papua New Guinea, Oceania"
Old hut post. This post was a supporting element of a ceremonial hut. All the huts in the Sepik River valley are built on stilts in anticipation of annual floods. Wood eroded by time and use. The ceremonial huts are regularly rebuilt. The poles, more resistant than the lightweight materials constituting the roof, walls and floors, can be reused. However, in the event that these boxes are definitively abandoned, it is possible to acquire them, which I did for this specimen. Each post or beam is sculpted by one of the village clans who represent their ancestors and totemic animals. Good condition. Sold mounted on a base. 215 x 25 x 22 cm / €3500 on base. Free shipping for France / €100 for Europe / other countries on request.
