"Bunten Rosewood Thermometer, Circa 1830"
Luxurious themometer mounted in rosewood or rosewood veneer and maquette and signed "Bunten, Quai Pelletier, 30, Paris", dating from the 1830s. Bunten was Mossy's student. He succeeded Quai Pelletier first at 26 then, it seems at the beginning of the 1830s, at 30 of the same Quai. Bunten was one of the best French manufacturers of marine barometers and thermometers during the Restoration and the July Monarchy. This model, quite luxurious, is mounted in a rosewood veneer with lighter rosewood marquetry. The central brass plate is engraved in Centigrade and Réaumur. The three parts that hold the brass tube are made of gilded bronze. Height: 48.5 cm; maximum width: 10.5cm. Rare model, beautiful condition and perfect working order.
