"Drawing XVIII S "pastoral Scene" By Bernhard Heinrich Thier."
Beautiful pastoral scene representing a shepherd and his animals in a site of ruins. This beautiful ink drawing is delicately enhanced with watercolor and gray wash. The scene is very pleasantly laid out, with the ruins of a church and a few houses of a hamlet. An interesting sundial and stained glass windows complete this attention to detail. The theme of romantic ruins is the perfect reflection of the taste of the end of the 18th century, faithful to his contemporary Hubert Robert. Signed lower right by Bernhard Heinrich Thier, painter and designer, born in Germany in Munster in 1743 and died in Holland in Leiden in 1811. Framing an old and pretty Marie-Louise golden rod with fillets, the central cartouche gives the artist name, but with incorrect dates. Small wrinkles in the paper at the top of the drawing, a few small stains and depigmentations that do not affect the reading of the work. No tears. Frame: 51cm x 41cm. Drawing: 37 cm x 26 cm. Old sales label on the back.
