"Chinese Bronze 18th Century, Guan Gong, Guan Yu, God Of War And Wealth, China"
Superb very large ancient bronze of Chinese origin representing Guan Gong or Guan Yu, the God of war, loyalty but also wealth. He is represented with his long beard and his sword. The carving work is of high quality, with an old niage on the plastron, deeply chiseled elements but at the same time a softness in the forms which makes it a very pleasant statue to contemplate. The character is represented standing on rocks. The size, 53 cm high, makes it a very decorative element. This is a rare statue of the warrior represented in this way, according to my research, I have not found an equivalent on the internet. The mounting of the bronze to the base is done by key and pin, this is a very old assembly. The absence of signature, the patina, the carving and the mounting allow us to date it to the end of the 18th century, but I remain attentive to the specialists. The front rock has a small weakness with a little play when touched but remains in place once the bronze is placed.
