On the lid, in the central medallion, the right profile of King Frederick II of Prussia, in uniform and wig, with the legend FRIDERICUS MAGNUS BORUSS[iae] REX [Frederick the Great King of Prussia]. In the upper cartouche, surmounted by a crowned eagle holding a laurel branch in its beak, the king at the head of his army leads the assault on the city. The legend FAMA INGENS / INGENTIOR ARMIS / VIRG. IN. XI. v. 124 [Great in fame, even greater in feats of arms] is taken from Virgil's Aeneid (XI, 124). In the lower cartridge, the great arms of Prussia with the motto PRO GLORIA ET PATRIA.
On the bottom, in the central medallion, the three-quarter bust front portrait of the Duke of Brunswick Ferdinand, in hat and uniform, a cane in his right hand; below, in a separate cartridge, the legend FERDINANDUS / DUX / BRUNV[icensis] LUNEB[urgensia] / IMPERATOR EXERCITUUM / FOEDERAT[orum] SUMMUS [Ferdinand Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Armies]. In the upper cartridge, the battle of Minden with the legend VICTORIA / FOEDERATORUM / GALLIS DEVICTIS / MINDAE / 1759, 1 Aug [Victory of the Allies, Defeat of the French at Minden, August 1, 1759]. In the lower cartouche, the white horse of Hanover.

The snuff box is signed twice:
- on the lid: IOH[annes] • HEN[ricus] / GIESE / FECIT / ISERLON;
- on the bottom: IH GIESE. ISERLON / FECIT

Good general condition, very beautiful patina.
The bottom is more worn than the lid.
Hinge in good condition, the lid works perfectly.
A small shock at one end with small tears in the brass.
