Object description :

"Italian School Of The 17th Century - Landscape At The River"
Italian school of the 17th century Biagio LOMBARDO (Attributed to) Este, around 1610 - Active in Venice and Este around 1655-1660 Oil on wood 17.5 x 16 cm (19.5 x 17.5 cm with frame) This small landscape recalls the Venetian landscapes of the 17th century in particular those of the painter Biagio Lombardo, one of the first landscape painters active in Venice in the 1650s. Characteristic of this painting is the composition with an eventful foreground with a waterfall and small characters contrasting with a peaceful, idyllic distance bathed in light. Also with an influence from the Nordic masters who stayed in Italy at the end of the first half of the 17th century and which we see in the subtlety of the light in the background and the naturalism of the vegetation in front. In addition Biagio Lombardo was a miniaturist and our painting is a very small format. For comparison we can cite the painting from the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux "Landscape with waterfall and washerwomen" convincingly attributed to the painter Biagio Lombardo (number 48 of the Catalog of Italian Painting 15th-19th centuries from the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux, Jean Habert, 1987).
