"The Garçonne Haircut, 1928 Erwin Stolz Secessionist Czech Austrian Art Nouveau Artist"
Erwin Stolz (Kyselka 1896 - 1987 Vienna) is an artist whose extremely singular work is imbued with an original and powerful symbolism. An officer during the First World War and an agricultural engineer by training, Stolz turned to art at the end of the war. He worked as a sign painter and industrial graphic designer. At the same time, he followed classical art training in Vienna and developed a particular gift for portraits. During this first period, the artist underwent several artistic influences, the most important are which were of symbolist and secessionist artists such as Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) and Max Klinger (1857-1920). Stolz, with a very particular and personal artistic style, mainly uses black ink. His characters invite us to meditation and introspection. Our work is signed lower right and dated Juni (June) 19(28) at the lower left. Small undulations at the edges of the sheet, oak frame.
