Oil on canvas by Paul Alfred de Curzon (Le Moulinet à Vienne 1820-Paris 1895). Signature lower left A. De Curzon. Painting representing a forest path along a river animated by 2 female characters. Work in very good condition sold without the frame Format: 61/50cm Information about the painter: - Student of Droling, he entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1840, but little interested in the study of the figure, he chose in 1841 to follow the teaching of the landscaper Cabat. He visited Italy for the first time in 1846-1847 with his friends Brillouin and was more interested in nature than in museums. Having been ranked second in 1849 in the Rome competition, for the historical landscape (Death of Milo of Crotone), he nevertheless obtained at the Academy's request to benefit from a pension at the Villa Medici for 4 years. During this stay, he visited Italy and in 1852 Greece. He was already exhibiting at the Salon in 1843 and in 1857 he received a second class medal, and in 1867 he obtained a third medal at the Universal Exhibition. He covered all genres, but he is especially famous for his landscapes of Greece, Italy and his Italian genre scenes. His son Henri de Curzon published a biography in 1916 accompanied by the artist's correspondence and a catalog of his work.
