"Antique Rosary Medal St. Ignatius Loyola Silver & Bone Religious 18th Cent"
18th Century rare rosary, with no missing pieces, made in bone beads with the shape of memento mori (skulls that reminds us to do good deeds since we will all die someday). At the end we see a stunning large medal in silver with 2 faces, surrounded by a twisting silver thread typical of the era. On one side, we find the effigy of Saint Ignatius of Loyola (founder of the Society of Jesus, Jesuits). On the other, we see the Saint on his deathbed praying with a crucifix in his hands.
We can see that the second face on the medal is extensively more worn of than the other side which indicate us that the previous owners, probably clerics, used to wear this rosary with the face of the Saint looking towards the front.
Truly a special artefact, a rare addition to any collection.
