Circa 1920-1950 South Tunisia Bakhnoug or rectangular shawl woven in wool intended to cover the shoulders or heads of Berber women from South Tunisia. Thick manual weaving of wool dyed in cochineal red with white patterns. Woven decor with Islamic geometric patterns. Knotted wool fringes at the ends. Nothing to do with contemporary productions, this shawl has the finesse and patina of vegetable dyes from before 1950 and a fine, tight weave made on a hand loom. Superb deep carmine red with very slight variations in original color. Perfect condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: 155 cm x 105 cm
