a very spectacular sculpted alabaster group, according to the metamorphoses it takes up the theme of the loves of Eros and psyche.
that here Eros is none other than love or even Cupid the son of the goddess Aphrodite.
after having disobeyed his mother, he falls in love with Psyche, the daughter of a king renowned for immense beauty and jealous of Aphrodite herself.
every night he visits her, asking her to never want to see him.
her Aphrodite mother could not bear this budding love as she was so jealous of Psyche.

psyché falls madly in love with her mysterious lover who visits her every evening and flees before dawn after showering her with kisses, sweet words and caresses.
One day, awakened by the jealousy of her sisters, Psyche lights an oil lamp and sees her lover in the guise of a marvelous young man!
in wanting to save himself he burns himself in the psychic lamp. he leaves having been burned and Psyche sinks into despair.
it is only after a series of terrible ordeals subjected to the young woman by her mother-in-law that the young woman succeeds in reconquering the love of Eros to whom she will later be married on Olympus and where she will become a goddess with butterfly wings.
