Interesting suite of 5 engravings representing the surroundings of Lyon, at the beginning of the 19th century, under the Empire or the Restoration. They represent historic places in the Lyon region, in a configuration which has disappeared, since these areas have since been built and urbanized. The engravings are animated by numerous picturesque characters, animals, boats, the buildings are finely represented and each is titled: - View of the hillside of Sainte Foy near Lyon - View of the banks of the Saone and the Mont d'or taken from the Left Bank - View of the old church of the Cordelliers of Observance, the veterinary school and the Serin bridge (tear on the side hidden under a Marie Louise during framing) - View of the Chateau de Roche cardon (tear on the side concealable under a marie louise during framing) - View of the ruins of the Roman aqueducts at Beaunant near Lyon (the latter without its framing, tear on the side concealable under a marie louise during framing ). Empire Restoration period, circa 1820, signed Wery and Piringer. Rare subject for Lyon fans. 4 engravings have retained their original walnut and blackened wood frame with blown glass windows, from the Charles X period, the last one is under glass. The frames are in attic condition, some with animal holes, restorable by waxing them. We can source and supply Empire period gilded wood frames and provide the reframing service on request. The price includes postal shipping of the 5 engravings rolled in a transport roll, with the frames if the purchaser comes to take possession of them from us or by carrier (additional costs).
