Former plaster from the molding workshop, artistic section of Brussels. International trade
Brass plaque
Created in the 19th century, under Leopold II. When several European countries agree to exchange plaster casts of their respective masterpieces. The young Belgian state actively participates in this exchange for educational purposes, by buying, selling and exchanging casts. To promote the widest possible dissemination of European heritage, Belgium has its own molding workshop at the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. The result is a collection of more than 5,000 plaster molds and casts. Until the 1930s, visitors to the museum could admire the casts in a monumental presentation. Changes in museum design then help to place the collection in storage.
