"Primitive Bono (1880-1955)"
Oil on panel, signed lower right “P.BONO” titled and located on the back “La Vague - Esterel – Côte d'Azur - p.bono” from the early 20th century. All in very good condition. Dimensions: Without the frame: 32cm by 23cm With the frame: 36.5cm by 27 cm Primitive Bono was born in Italy, in Brescia (Lombardy), in 1880. He began his artistic career by regularly exhibiting his works at the French artists' salon , of which he became a member, from the 1920s to 1929 (silver medal in 1927). He then traveled to Algeria, Tunisia, Spain and France, where he met different painters and artists who influenced his style. Bono settled permanently in Algeria in 1939, where he worked until his death in 1955. He painted seaside landscapes, sunsets with a rich and poetic palette of colors, oriental characters in their frame of life as well as views of towns or villages.
