"Ariane Abandoned, Bronze By Aimé Millet"
Old edition bronze statue from the 1900s (Art-Nouveau period) bearing the signature of the sculptor Aimé Millet. Original brown/golden patina, careful casting and finishing, good condition of presentation according to its age with normal wear appearing on the views. Scene from mythology having inspired many artists where we see Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, who saved Theseus (lost in the Minotaur's labyrinth) by giving him the famous thread which allowed him to escape. Theseus, who promised to marry her, did not keep his commitment and abandoned her in despair on the island of Naxos.... Aimé Millet was born in Paris (1819/1891) after studying at the Royal School of Drawing, he worked with the sculptor Antoine Desboeufs, in 1836 he was accepted 1st at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and joined the workshop of David d'Angers. Exhibiting at the Salon around 1840 and responding to important orders, it was in 1861 that he was appointed vice-president of the Société nationale des beaux-arts, professor at the National School of Decorative Arts Louis Majorelle, François Pompon, Berthe Morisot... are among his students.
