Elagabal stops at Nicomedia. He spent the whole winter there and fell ill. It is therefore in this city that he takes up his second consulate. Elagabalus did not arrive in Rome until July or September 219, bringing the black stone of his cult to install it in his capital. He will never return to Syria, assassinated quickly after a reign unequaled in turpitude and disorder.
