"Oil On Canvas "the Washerwomen In Hot Waters", Digne. Maurice Vagh Weinmann, 1971."
These six washerwomen, in colorful outfits, do their laundry (the bugade) in the bed of the 'Eaux Chaudes' torrent emanating from a thermal spring, upstream. The painter Maurice Vagh Weinmann, of Hungarian origin, was professor and then director of the School of Fine Arts in Digne les Bains from 1969 to 1976. It was during this stay that he executed this painting, a testimony to life in Haute Provence in the middle of the last century. The canvas is signed Maurice Vagh Weinmann 'lower left' and dated 1971 'lower right'. Good technique with relatively thick strokes. Carved and rechampi wooden frame. (77x87)
