Monk Upagupta flag

Object description :

"Monk Upagupta"
Copper alloy Buddhist image, possibly of the monk Upagupta, who, according to the Sanskrit Ashokavadana texts, was the spiritual master of the Emperor Ashoka (who is credited with an important role in the spread of Buddhism in ancient Asia ). Tibet, circa 1900 or before. The sculpture's plate has been unsealed in the past, the edge of the base has several securing perforations. (V. photo) The base shows traces of oxidation and small holes on its top, the most obvious signs of wear are fortunately located on the subject's elbow, so they are not visible when facing it. .
