(slight age wear) 

Two dry point compasses with spherical hinges, brass ribs and facetted branches, one in iron and the other in steel. 

These instruments, which owe their name to their two identical points, were used to record lengths or to lightly mark a surface for preparatory tracings, measurements or proportional measurements in many trades, including seamen, cabinetmakers, carpenters and stonemasons.
