"Vase By Emile Decoeur"
Apprenticed to Edmond Lachenal at the age of 14, he presented his first work at the 1901 Salon des Artistes Français. Three years later, he founded his own gallery “L'art Céramique” in Auteuil and worked with artists such as Théodore Rivière, Guillaume Laplagne and Paul Moreau-Vauthier. It was certainly during these years that he began experimenting with porcelain stoneware.
He is one of the great names in French ceramics of the early 20th century. His works draw on both the antique and oriental repertoires, and his virtuosity led him to collaborate with the Manufacture de Sèvres, which he directed from 1939 to 1943.
