Alexandre DEFAUX -1826-1900 The duck pond Oil on canvas signed lower left 33 the student — and Jean François Millet. He is known for his paintings of sunny farmyards filled with quarreling chickens or geese, although he was also attracted to the undergrowth, which was quiet and seemed to be removed from any human or animal activity. He painted almost exclusively in the Barbizon region or in Normandy.
