Biography
A Tuscan painter, he was initiated into painting by his uncle Cesare, an esteemed author of war-themed paintings; he enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, where he took the nude course taught by fellow citizen Giovanni Fattori, a friend of his uncle, and frequented the other best-known exponents of the Macchiaiolo movement: Telemaco Signorini and Silvestro Lega.
