"The French War Fleet On Maneuver Around 1850"
Interesting large drawing in black chalk, enhanced with white gouache, representing a flotilla of French warships carrying out a circular maneuver. With regard to the typology of the buildings, we are between 1840 and 1860. The very great sobriety of the rear castles, begun under Louis XVI, is maximum here, it has disappeared leaving only the windows of the officers' wardroom and their cabins visible. We can observe a large ship with three decks, all guns out, and auxiliary ships, frigates in particular. these are the last sailing warships, mixed vessels, using steam, will soon appear. This drawing allows buildings to be observed from various angles, which is a technical feat. A monogram is present, but it remained unresolved. original pitch pine frame and goes everywhere.
