"Cabinet In Ebony And Ivory Marquetry, Italy 17th Century"
Lovely Travel Cabinet in ebony and ivory veneer. Rectangular in shape, it opens onto two marquetry leaves with geometric decoration, it has a large drawer in the lower part, and the ogee in the upper part lifts and reveals a mercury mirror and lockers. It rests on four rave legs. The two leaves reveal a magnificent blackened wooden cabinet with 6 drawers, with charming pull handles decorated with women's heads, and twisted rock crystal columns. The interior of the leaves is also inlaid with geometric shapes, with bronze trim. The drawers and cabinet doors are all decorated with an ivory marquetry net, and the drawer in the center is decorated with a bronze Muse, on a rosewood veneer background. Good state of conservation, some usual restorations. This cabinet with this geometric marquetry is very inspired by the cabinets of Augsburg, or Antwerp, but the resinous backgrounds make us lean more towards work from Northern Italy; The Cabinet is very Florentine with its twisted columns. Precious piece of furniture which was used to present collections, curiosities or valuable things. More information on request.
